“All the things you never tell your parents”

For the first time since 2014 Roar Amundsen will be releasing new music in his own name.

Roar owned and managed record label Songcrafter Music for 18 years, and he has helped numerous Danish and international songwriters get their music out to an audience. But even though he has used his songwriting skills on other songwriters´ projects for many years he never stopped writing songs on his own as well.

The new single “Mother” is his first release in English. A heartfelt tribute to his mother who is reaching the end of a long life.

“When you’ve been lucky enough to have both your parents in your life for many many years, you get this very strange and empty feeling, when their lives are coming to an end, and you see yourself moving out to the edge of the family bench.

I think a lot of us recognize how hard it can be to talk to your parents about your big emotions when you’re all grown up. “Mother” is an attempt to get my emotions and gratitude across to my mother through music instead, and tell her what she has meant to me in my life, while she still has a chance to hear it”, Roar Amundsen says.

I hope this song can be a comfort for others in the same situation.

The song was written late at night after a visit to the hospital, and it was recorded in a one-take recording by Jesper Folke in Folkes Garage in Østbirk (DK) and mastered by Jan Eliasson at Audioplanet.
